"אבי מנחם נפטר לפני המלחמה, כשהייתי ילד צעיר. גדלתי במלחמת העולם השנייה בתנאים קשים, עברתי תלאות רבות ושרדתי בדרך נס, הודות לגבורה ולתושייה של אימי אילנה.

אימי, אני, שלושת אחיי הגדולים ואחותי הקטנה נלקחנו לגטו דברצן ולמחנות ריכוז וכפייה בהונגריה. לאחר מכן נשלחנו ברכבות לגטו טרזינשטט, ושוחררנו ממנו בסיום המלחמה. היינו ציוניים, ולכן עלינו ב-1950 לישראל, לאחר ששהינו במחנות עקורים בהונגריה. התגוררנו במעברה בקריית יובל שבירושלים, ואחר כך עברנו לשכונת בתי אונגרין.

בשכונת רחביה הקמתי עם אשתי רחל משפחה לתפארת, יש לנו 4 ילדים, נכדים ונינים. עבדתי שנים בתחום האומנות, יצרתי חפצי יודאיקה, כינורות, חנוכיות ועוד פריטים שהוענקו לגדולי האומה. למרות הקשיים בתחילת הדרך התאקלמנו בירושלים, ואני גאה בהישגים שלי ושל משפחתי, ומודה לאן שהגענו."

“My father Menachem died before the war, when I was a young boy. I grew up in harsh conditions during the Second World War. I suffered many hardships and it’s a miracle I survived, thanks to the heroism and ingenuity of my mother Ilana.

My mother, myself, my three older brothers and my little sister were taken to Debrecen ghetto and to concentration camps and forced labor camps in Hungary. Then we were sent in trains to Theresienstadt ghetto, and liberated from there at the end of the war. We were Zionists, so we immigrated to Israel in 1950, after spending time in a displaced persons’ camp in Hungary. We lived in a transit camp in Kiryat Hayovel in Jerusalem, and then we moved to the Batei Ungarin neighborhood.

With my wife Rachel I established a wonderful family in Rechavia. We have 4 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I worked in the field of art for many years, I made Judaica, harps, Hannukah candelabras, and other items that have been presented to important people. In spite of the early difficulties we have settled well in Jerusalem, and I am proud of my achievements and those of my family and are grateful for where we are.”
