ב-1941 נמלט מנחם עם אימו ליערות. הם הסתתרו בביצות טובעניות ובבורות שחפרו הפרטיזנים, וכך שרדו. לאחר מכן עברו למחנה העקורים דגנדרוף, ובשנת 1948 עלו לישראל.

מנחם, שהיה איש שיחה מיוחד ומרתק, בעל תחומי עניין שונים ויכולת נתינה וראייה חדה, נישא לסימה. לימים אף כיהן בתפקיד בכיר כסגן נציב שירות המדינה. הוא היה איש חם ואוהב, חרוץ, שהמסר שלו הוא שיש להילחם ולא לוותר כדי להצליח. בשנותיו האחרונות אהב לצייר. נפטר כרוח סערה ב-13 בספטמבר 2020 ממגפת הקורונה.

Menachem Zindel – born 1936 in Rivne in Ukraine

“You have to fight and not give up in order to succeed.”

In 1941 Menachem fled with his mother to the forests. They hid in marshes and in pits dug by the partisans, and thus they survived. Afterwards they moved to a displaced persons’ camp in Deggendorf, and in 1948 immigrated to Israel. Menachem, who was a generous and fascinating conversationalist, with many areas of interest and sharp observational ability, married Sima. Later he served in a senior position in the Civil Service. He was a warm, loving, hard working person whose message was that we must fight and never give up in order to succeed. In his later years he loved to paint. He died like a stormy wind on 13 September 2020 from the Covid pandemic.
