אביו, לאון יהודה ניניו, היה ממגורשי ספרד שחיו באיזמיר שבטורקיה, ואימו נעמי לבית שוחט הייתה מבגדד שבעיראק. סבו, שאול שוחט, וסבו וסבתו, שמואל ודונה ניניו, עלו לפלשתינה. הוריו שלימדו בבית הספר הצרפתי אליאנס שבמרוקו נשלחו לצרפת לשליחות חינוכית, ולכן שפת האם של שמואל הייתה צרפתית. בתקופת מלחמת העולם השנייה לא התקבל שמואל לבית ספר צרפתי כי היה יהודי. ב-1942 הגיע הצבא האמריקאי למרוקו, שמואל זוכר שהחיילים שבמרקש חייכו לילדים וחילקו להם מסטיקים.
שמואל למד בצרפת אגרונומיה והתמחה בשמנים בתעשיית המזון. הוא קיבל תואר מהנדס אגרונום ומזון. הוא גדל בבית ציוני, אביו שהיה חזן אסף תרומות לקרן קיימת לישראל ועודד רבים לעלות לארץ. ב-1966, שנה לפני מלחמת ששת הימים, עלו שמואל ואורה אשתו לארץ מטעמים אידאולוגיים, זה היה התנאי לחתונתם.
כיום אורה ושמואל גרים בירושלים, בירתה הנצחית של ישראל, ומודים לה' על הילדים, הנכדים והנינים.
Shmuel Ninio – born in 1934 in Madagan in Morocco

His father, Leon Yehuda Ninio, was descended from expelled Spanish Jews who lived in Izmir in Turkey, and his mother Naomi, nee Shochat, was from Baghdad in Iraq. His maternal grandfather, Shaul Shochat, and his paternal grandparents, Shmuel and Donna Ninio, immigrated to Palestine. His parents, who had taught in the French Alliance School in Morocco, were sent to France on an educational mission, so Shmuel’s mother tongue was French. During the Second World War he was not accepted to a French school because he was Jewish. In 1942 the American army reached Morocco, Shmuel remembers that the soldiers in Marrakesh smiled at the children and gave them chewing gum.
Shmuel studied agronomy in France and specialized in oils for the food industry. He received a degree as an agronomist and food engineer. He grew up in a Zionist family. His father who was a cantor collected donations for the JNF and encouraged many to immigrate to Israel. In 1966, one year before the Six Day War, Shmuel and his wife Ora immigrated to Israel for ideological reasons. That was a condition of their marriage. Today they live in Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel, and thank God for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
