“If you will it, it is no dream.” So wrote Theodore Herzl, the father of the modern Jewish state. The vision of willpower and realization of the dream also describes the opening of the Friends of Israel Museum, which tells the story of the Righteous Among the Nations. So if you are looking for a museum in Jerusalem, come and visit us.
An old Jerusalem building, located in Nahalat Shiva, near Kikar Hahatulim in the city center, houses a complex of about 1,500 square meters and an investment of millions with the aid of thousands of pro-Israel supporters from all over the world. So, if your heart desires to explore a museum in Jerusalem, a visit to the Friends of Israel Museum, the first “Smart Museum” in Israel, is a must for everyone. The Museum is part of a new complex that includes an auditorium for events, a residence for Holocaust survivors, and a small cafe.
In this magnificent project in which several million shekels have been invested, a real miracle takes place that extends over three floors leading the visitor on a journey through time. The first two floors are dedicated to a permanent historical display, which begins long before the establishment of the state and tells the story of the vision. The upper floor shows the present time and what the future holds for us. A tour of the place reveals the use of unique technology, painted three-dimensional mirrors, impressive audio-visual displays, and a rare floor made of some of the most extensive LED lighting in the world, synchronized with the holograms on the walls.
The Museum’s intention is to inspire, exalt the Righteous Among the Nations and their heritage, and be a bridge for Zionists worldwide. The Museum in Jerusalem allows the general public to connect with it because it deals with the Jewish spirit. It consists of seven spectacular exhibits, which convey the historical story of all those non-Jewish Zionist figures – who have so far been overlooked a little – for future generations. The Museum reveals knowledge and unique perspectives in an experiential, multi-sensory, and fun way through creating a special closeness and interaction with the characters that cannot be experienced elsewhere.
Also, through an animation technique, 3D life-size characters have been created. Among the exciting exhibits, each representing a different chapter in the story, is the “Founders”, where you can get to know Abraham and the other founding fathers who were a part of the beginning of the history of the Promised Land.
The museum tour is fascinating, easy to navigate (although accompanied by a guide), and rich in images. The decision to build the show according to a historical timeline makes it possible to observe the country’s development over the different centuries and decades. Moreover, the Friends of Israel Museum serves as a platform for the struggle and manifestations of anti-Semitism worldwide.
The Museum’s former International Chairman of the Board was the late President Shimon Peres. Sitting as the current International Chairman is Dr. Mike Evans. The Museum’s Board of Trustees also includes Former Minister, Major General (Res.) Yossi Peled, the former Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. (Res.) Dan Halutz, the former Minister, Professor Yaakov Neeman, Major General (Res.) Danny Yatom, and many others.
