Maya Goren, 56, of blessed memory
Maya, a mother of four, was kidnapped to Gaza. Her partner, Avner Goren, was murdered in the massacre at Kibbutz Nir Oz. On that “Black Sabbath”, she left early in the morning to organize the children’s house in Nir Oz, where she worked, to prepare it for the next day. There, she was caught in a barrage of rockets and later received notifications that terrorists were roaming the kibbutz. She managed to write that she was hiding under one of the children’s beds.
On December 1st, her family was informed of her murder while in captivity, and her body was rescued during a military operation on July 24, 2024.
Maya worked in the kibbutz’s education system for many years, dedicating her heart and love to the children, the staff and the work itself. Even outside of working hours, she always volunteered to help parents with their children.
