Alex Dantzig, 75, of blessed memory
Alex was kidnapped from Nir Oz along with his brother-in-law, Itzik Elgart (69), and was last seen on Saturday at eight in the morning. In a song written by his granddaughter, she described her feelings without him: “With each passing day, you are missed more, and with each passing day, the situation becomes more dangerous”. On July 22, 2024, his family was informed that he was murdered in Hamas captivity. His body was recovered from Gaza on August 20, 2024.
Alex was the child of Holocaust survivors, a history teacher and a historian. He led the youth delegations to Poland for decades and was the Chairman of the Polish Desk at Yad Vashem. He was also the Water Resources Manager of Nir Oz.
