Sahar was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Be’eri. On October 7th, he was at his mother’s house with his brother, Idan. Early in the morning, grenades were thrown into the house, and Idan was injured. Throughout the ordeal, Sahar took care of Idan. They entered the fortified room and tried to lock themselves in, but they couldn’t, so they barricaded themselves inside with a closet. The terrorists set the house on fire, and despite understanding the danger outside, they decided to jump out. Sahar managed to tell his mother, “Dying in a fire is more painful”. Idan likely jumped out first, while Sahar stayed behind to search for Idan’s inhaler. Contact with them was lost around noon. A few days later, the family was informed of the confirmed identification of Idan’s body, which was found to have been shot in the head. Throughout this time, Sahar was considered missing, and only about three weeks after October 7th, the family was informed that he had been kidnapped. On December 9, his family was informed of his murder, and his body is being held by Hamas.
Sahar was killed during his rescue attempt on December 7th, and Kibbutz Be’eri announced his death two days after the operation. At this time, it is not possible to determine whether he was killed by IDF fire or by Hamas terrorists. His body is still being held in Gaza.
