Yesterday, at the Friends of Zion Museum in Jerusalem, a moving memorial evening was held in honor of Aner Shapira a soldier, musician, and a man of rare courage and spirit.
Family, friends, and guests gathered to remember Aner’s special personality his love for life, creativity, and people. Throughout the evening, they shared stories, words, and songs he wrote and left behind, echoing the deep longing for his light and kindness.
Aner fell heroically on October 7, when he protected dozens of young people sheltering in a roadside bomb shelter near Re’im. He threw back seven grenades that terrorists had tossed inside saving many lives until he was fatally wounded by the eighth.
His act of bravery has become a lasting symbol of self-sacrifice, humanity, and light in the darkest of times.
Thank you to everyone who came, listened, and shared — and to the Shapira family, who continue to spread Aner’s light through love, courage, and music.
May his memory be a blessing.
