On October 7th, 2023, the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the country took place, in which 1,300 innocent civilians were murdered. 251 men, women, children, elderly and soldiers were kidnaped to Gaza, some alive and some already dead. By August 2024, 117 hostages were returned to Israel alive, and 37 bodies were recovered. 97 remain in Hamas captivity.
